A structured, practical grounding in the full project life cycle for the people who run and support projects in health and care, local government, housing and the voluntary sector: project officers and coordinators, PMO teams, programme support and staff taking on their first projects. Apprentices learn a recognised project management method and apply it to live projects in your organisation from the start.

Key areas covered

  • The project life cycle, from initiation and business case to handover and closure
  • Planning, scheduling and resource management
  • Budgeting, cost control and financial monitoring
  • Risk, issue and change control
  • Quality, governance and project reporting
  • Stakeholder management and communication

Programme features

  • Core project management discipline — the tools, documents and controls that keep projects on track, taught through real examples from health, care and the public sector and applied to your own projects.
  • Public and voluntary sector context — governance and approval routes, information governance, working across partner organisations and reporting to boards, committees and programme groups, with examples drawn from the NHS, local government and the voluntary sector.
  • Blended learning — monthly workshops delivered face to face and remotely, combined with self-paced learning and applying skills on the job, with a dedicated assessor throughout.
  • Level 4 qualification — the government-recognised Associate Project Manager standard (ST0310), equivalent to the first year of a degree or an HNC, and a route to professional membership.

Which Level 4 programme? This programme focuses on managing projects well, in any sector. If your people are leading wider service change in the NHS, such as new care pathways or the move to Integrated Neighbourhood Teams, the NHS Transformation and Associate Project Manager adds leadership and change management to the same standard.

Why it pays

What this programme does for your organisation

Projects that land

Give the people running your projects a consistent method for planning, tracking and reporting, so work is delivered as agreed.

Stronger PMO capability

Build a shared project language and standard documentation across your teams and programme office.

Better use of resources

Apprentices learn to control budgets, manage risk and spot issues early, reducing rework and slippage.

Enhance retention

Offer a clear development route to the people who keep your projects moving.

80% of apprentices stay with their employer after completing (apprenticeships.gov.uk).

Cost-effective training

Funded through your levy or a levy transfer from a larger organisation.
