Hiring a 16–24 year old can bring in up to £6,000
When you hire a 16–24 year old through an apprenticeship, training is fully funded, there are no employer National Insurance contributions, and the government's incentive payments are stackable:
- £2,000 SME hiring incentive for non-levy employers
- £1,000 young apprentice payment for hiring someone aged 16–18, or 19–24 with an EHCP or care leaver status
- £3,000 Universal Credit youth jobs grant for hiring an 18–24 year old who has been on Universal Credit for six months or more
Unlike training funding, these payments go directly to your organisation and can cover uniform, equipment, mentoring time or onboarding costs. Full detail on the funding and costs page.
