What is an apprenticeship?

An apprenticeship is a real, paid job with training built in. You work for an employer, earn a wage, and spend around 6 hours a week on structured learning that leads to a nationally recognised qualification.

Who can apply?

Anyone aged 16 or over who lives in the UK and isn’t in full-time education. Apprenticeships suit school and college leavers, people changing career, and employees who want to develop in their current role. Entry requirements vary by programme and level.

Can I do an apprenticeship if I'm already employed?

Yes. Many employers use apprenticeships to develop existing staff. Speak to your manager about the programme you’re interested in — we’re happy to talk to them too.

Can I do an apprenticeship if I already have qualifications?

Yes, as long as the apprenticeship teaches you substantial new skills. Having a degree doesn’t stop you doing a Level 3 or Level 4 apprenticeship in a different field.

What are the different levels?

Level 2 is equivalent to GCSEs, Level 3 to A levels, Level 4 to the first year of a degree or an HNC, and Levels 5 to 7 range from a foundation degree to a master’s. We currently offer programmes at Levels 2, 3 and 4.

How long does an apprenticeship take?

Our programmes take between 8 and 16 months of learning, followed by an Apprenticeship Assessment (AA). The exact length depends on the programme and your starting point.

Will I get a qualification at the end?

Yes. Every apprenticeship leads to a nationally recognised qualification at the level of the standard you complete, awarded after your apprenticeship assessment.

Do I have to pay anything?

No. Training is funded by the government and, where applicable, your employer. You are paid a wage throughout, and apprentices under 25 attract no employer National Insurance, which makes you easier to hire.

How do I apply?

If you already have an employer, talk to them and then contact us or apply online. If you’re looking for a job with an apprenticeship attached, check our current vacancies and register your interest.

Can I progress to a higher level afterwards?

Yes. Apprenticeships are designed as a pathway: a Level 2 Administrative Assistant can move on to the Level 3 Business Administrator, and a Level 3 completer can progress to one of our Level 4 programmes: the Associate Project Manager or the NHS Transformation and Associate Project Manager.
